Who said the Big Five is hard to spot on safari?

The big five is a term coined by hunters because the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Rhino, Leopard and Lion were the most difficult animals in Africa to hunt on foot.

Dinner with a South African leopard, main course…baby waterbuck

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see a wild animal devour his prey in person?  Well, I wondered how the experience would be and I’m excited to share my encounter with a leopard nicknamed Mangela who tore off the head of a baby waterbuck for dinner.

Hanging with Harley Davidson

Check out my visit to Harley Davidson in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to participate in their Black History Month presentation to Iron Elite.  Harley Davidson created the Iron Elite website to document and preserve the history and heritage of African-American riding culture.  Icons custom chopper creator Suga Bear was in attendance and members from different bike clubs like the Buffalo Solider.  I also visited House of Harley Davidson, one of the worlds largest dealers and received a entertaining introduction the retail side of Harley Davidson.  Check out the webisode and enjoy the show!

The night House of Harley welcomed me to become a biker

Growing up Harley Davidson seemed like a brand that was out of reach for what I created in my own mind.  My perspective about Harley Davidson has done a complete 180-degree turn after spending time at House of Harley.  Harley Davidson represents America, an American brand with a history that I soon found myself wanting to join.

Singita Lebombo the crown jewel of Kruger Park

Singita Lebombo is called a lodge but I would say it is an experience.  Do you remember the show fantasy island with Tatto and Mr. Roarke where visitors could have any fantasy fulfilled?  Singita is similar to fantasy island but in living color.  From the moment we landed and were greeted at the airstrip to arriving in the main lodge I knew this was a special place.

Flying private on Federal Air to Singita Lebombo for safari

Over the years flying commercial in the States has become a tiresome job.  The labor of buying three ounce bottles for liquids, paying extra fees for checked bags, strip searches to go through security, figuring out where to park, getting dropped off or taking a train and/or bus to the airport has become quite cumbersome.   Today, I had the chance to fly private and kicker is I’m going to Kruger Park for safari!

Diary of a Professional Eater: Carnivore and Lucky Bean, Johannesburg

I’m a profession eater and there are two more places I enjoyed dinning in Johannesburg: Carnivore Restaurant and Lucky Bean.  Carnivore is an award winning restaurant (Best Traditional Restaurant, Runner-up Restaurant of the Year) and the dramatic entrance consumes you with anticipation with various African animal statues.  You can have a photo shoot with everything they have on display from a larger then life Nelson Mandela Statue, Zulu Kingdom thrown and statue of King Shaka Zulu.

Soweto: Life inside Motsoaledi, an informal settlement with a lot of heart!

In the states we call an impoverished area the hood, in the South Africa they call it an informal settlement.  When people hear the word hood or settlement they can be turned off but I find these areas to be the pulse of the world.  I enjoy visiting these areas to see how people are living.  It is easy to go visit anywhere in the world and live a posh lifestyle but it is always good to connect with those who are less fortunate and share their story.
